Shale grinding

01 Common

Shale consists mainly of quartz or feldspar and dark-colored minerals. They usually contain either quartz and mica, or pyroxenes, amphiboles and plagioclase or scapolite, or only dark-colored minerals.

Depending on the composition, shales are divided into mica, chlorite, talc, amphibole, etc. Crystalline shales also include specific minerals of metamorphic rocks, such as garnet (almandine), cordierite, andalusite, kyanite, silimanite, staurolite, scapolite, sometimes carbonates, etc.

Clay shales enriched with organic matter are used as oil shales.

Shales enriched with graphite are used as raw materials for its extraction.

Siliceous shales are used in the production of crushed stone and silicate bricks (dinas), while crystalline shales are used as refractory raw materials to produce silumin.
