01 Common
Rocks that are rich in kaolinite are known as kaolin or china clay. In many parts of the world kaolin is colored pink-orange-red by iron oxide, giving it a distinct rust hue. Lower concentrations yield white, yellow, or light orange colors.
Kaolin is an important raw material in many industries and applications. Commercial grades of kaolin are supplied and transported as powder, lumps, semi-dried noodle or slurry.
Advantages of using kaolin in the production of polymer-composite materials and plastics:
- Increase in tensile strength;
- increase of electrical resistance;
- Increase of viscosity parameters of reinforced fiberglass plastics based on polyester resins;
- reduction of water absorption properties;
- slowing down the aging process of polymeric materials.
